Mississippi Sea Wolves Unveil 10th Anniversary Logo |
BILOXI, Miss. � The Mississippi Sea Wolves have unveiled the commemorative logo for the team's 10th Anniversary season which begins in October.
The logo has the number �10� with a banner that has �1996� and �2006� separated by the head of the team mascot �Hook�.
�It�s a significant achievement to hit the 10-year mark,� said Sea Wolves general manager and head coach Bob Woods. �We appreciate the support of our fans, sponsors and media that have helped make it possible. Later in the summer, we will be making special announcements for our 10th Anniversary Season including the first-ever Sea Wolves Alumni Game. It�s going to be an exciting season.�
Mississippi joined the ECHL as an expansion team in 1996 and has qualified for the Kelly Cup Playoffs in seven of its nine seasons, highlighted by its Kelly Cup Championship in 1999.
Since hosting the 1999 ECHL All-Star Game, the Sea Wolves have received 10 postseason ECHL Awards including defenseman Mike Jarmuth being named to the 2004-05 All-ECHL Rookie Team. Bob Woods was selected twice as an All-ECHL Second Team Defenseman in 1998-99 and 2000-01 seasons. For three consecutive seasons from 2001-04, right wing Steffon Walby was named to the All-ECHL First Team. A two-time winner, defenseman Jim Baxter was chosen to the 2002-03 All-ECHL First Team and made the All-ECHL Second Team in 2003-04.
In the Sea Wolves front office, Jesse Martin was the recipient of the 2004 Ticket Executive of the Year, while Mike Kelly was awarded the 2004 Media Relations Director of the Year.
There have been nine personnel that have advanced to the National Hockey League after appearing with Mississippi. Center Jason Morgan, defenseman Jan Nemecek, goaltender Travis Scott and center Chris Schmidt all went on to play with the Los Angeles Kings. Defenseman Dan Focht saw action with the Phoenix Coyotes, left wing Rob Skrlac played for the New Jersey Devils, while defenseman Francois Beauchemin appeared with the Montreal Canadiens along with left wing Michael Ryder, who was named runner up for the 2004 Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL Rookie of the Year.
Former Sea Wolves equipment manager Scott Moon holds the same position with the New York Islanders of the NHL.
