Former Mississippi Sea Wolves defenseman Ryan Gaucher plays for the Alaska Aces of the ECHL and continues to be a part of the 2005 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
In 1999-00, Gaucher appeared in 50 games as a rookie with Mississippi, where he tallied five goals and 32 points. The 5-foot-11 and 210-pound Gaucher was the Sea Wolves only representative at the 2000 ECHL All-Star Game in Greenville, South Carolina and scored a goal in the contest.
In 2002-03, Gaucher was selected to the ECHL All-Star Game and was named First Team All-ECHL after leading ECHL defensemen with 19 goals and finishing second among defensemen with 46 assists and 65 points in 54 regular season games with Cincinnati. In the Kelly Cup Playoffs, the native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan scored nine points (2g-7a) in 11 games and helped Cincinnati advance to the Northern Conference Finals where it lost in seven games to eventual champion Atlantic City.
After starting 2004-05 with the Las Vegas Wranglers, Gaucher, who is in his sixth season of professional hockey, was acquired by Alaska in a trade on March 22. The 27-year-old Gaucher appeared in five regular season games with the Aces registering five assists and has played in 10 postseason games picking up three goals and seven points to go along with a plus/minus of +3.
After defeating the Bakersfield Condors in five games and Long Beach Ice Dogs in three straight, Gaucher and the Aces are going up against the Trenton Titans in the National Conference Finals, where the best-of-seven series is tied at one game apiece.
Games 3, 4 and 5 of the National Conference Finals will be played on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday at Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey.
