BILOXI, Miss. The ECHL announced today that Mississippi defenseman Mike Jarmuth has been named to the 2004-05 ECHL All-Rookie Team as determined in a vote of ECHL coaches, who were asked to select a goaltender, two defensemen and three forwards. A rookie is a player who has played in less than 25 professional games.
Becoming the first Mississippi player in team history to earn ECHL All-Rookie Team honors, the 23-year-old Jarmuth is currently tied for the team record with 12 goals as a rookie defenseman, equaling Quinn Fair during the 1996-97 campaign. Named Mississippis Rookie of the Month for October, December, January and March, the 6-foot and 205-pound Jarmuth registered a career-high eight-game point streak (5g-6a) from January 15 to February 5 and scored in four consecutive games from January 22 to February 1. A native of Monkton, Ontario, Jarmuth was named runner up for CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month for January and attended the 2004 training camp of the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. In 69 games in 2004-05, Jarmuth has collected 33 points (12g-21a), a plus/minus of +4 and 22 penalty minutes.
Its definitely a surprise and honor, Jarmuth said. I had no idea that there was even an award like this for rookies in the ECHL. I want to thank Sea Wolves head coach Bob Woods and associate coach Steffon Walby, my Mississippi teammates for helping make this possible, especially my defense partner Austin Miller.
Mike deserves this honor, Mississippi general manager and coach Bob Woods said. He has been an impact player on our team since day one this season. Jarmuth has been on the ice in all key situations and looks like a seasoned veteran out there. I hope he can finish it off with a great playoff.
