BILOXI, Miss. � The Mississippi Sea Wolves announced today that goaltender Lance Mayes has been waived by the team.
Mayes, 26, was acquired earlier in the day in a trade with the Alaska Aces along with future considerations for goaltender Matt Underhill. A native of Brentwood Bay, British Columbia, Mayes appeared in 22 games this season with Alaska posting a 15-7-0 record along with a 2.65 goals-against average and .905 save percentage. The 6-foot and 180-pound Mayes won nine straight appearances for the Aces from January 21 to March 15 and set Alaska goaltending records in 2003-04, in his rookie season of professional hockey, for the lowest goals-against average at 2.60 and highest save percentage of .908.
The Sea Wolves take to the ice at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow against the Victoria Salmon Kings, the first ECHL based in Canada, to be held at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. The game promotion is Discounted Daiquiri Night, offering a $2 discount off each daiquiri.
