Mississippi Goes 1-1-1

BILOXI, Miss. � The Mississippi Sea Wolves took three of a possible six points last week over a three-game stretch to remain in the ECHL postseason picture.

The Sea Wolves defeated the Pensacola Ice Pilots 5-1 on Wednesday at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Mississippi fell 3-2 in overtime against the Florida Everblades at the Wolves Den on Friday, while on Saturday in the second game of a home-and-home set the Everblades blanked the Sea Wolves 3-0 at Germain Arena in Estero.

Through 58-of-72 games, the Sea Wolves have compiled a 31-22-5 overall record for 67 points.

Mississippi sits in fourth place in the ECHL South Division ranks in a tie with the Greenville Grrrowl for seventh in the 12-team American Conference, where the top eight teams qualify for the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

The Sea Wolves are 17-11-2 at home, 14-10-3 on the road, 3-3 in overtime games and 7-2 in shootouts.

* Mississippi goal scorers were Jay Legault with two, Kerry Ellis-Toddington, Anthony Battaglia and Pat O�Leary.
* Pensacola�s lone tally came off the stick of Jordan Krestanovich.
* Sea Wolves goaltender Randy Petruk made 33 saves to register the win.
* Ice Pilots netminder Todd Ford turned away 37-of-42 shots, while goalie Frederic Cloutier appeared in 36 seconds of action but didn�t face any shots.

* Florida�s Brent McDonald scored with nine seconds left in regulation, while Reggie Berg scored the overtime winner 1:42 into the extra session. Damian Surma also tallied for Florida.
* Mississippi picked up goals from Pat O�Leary and Travis Lisabeth.
* Sea Wolves goalie Phil Sauve turned aside 36 shots.
* Everblades goaltender Tyler MacKay surrendered two goals on 25 shots.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK � Right wing Jay Legault registered two goals and a helper in three games last week. The 6-foot-4 and 220-pound Legault netted both of his tallies in the victory against Pensacola on Wednesday. The 25-year-old Legault collected the assist on Friday in the overtime setback versus Florida. Selected by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the third round, 72nd overall in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Legault has compiled 15 goals, 31 assists for 46 points in 47 games this season. A native of Peterborough, Ontario, Legault also appeared in two games with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League in 2004-05.

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK � Randy Petruk went 1-1-0 in two games last week highlighted by backstopping Mississippi to a 5-1 win over Pensacola on Wednesday by making 33 stops. The 5-foot-10 and 195-pound Petruk stopped 28 shots on Saturday at Florida, only to fall 3-0 against his former team. A native of Cranbrook, British Columbia, Petruk is 3-2-0 with Mississippi in five appearances with a 2.57 goals-against average and .929 save percentage since joining the team in a trade with Bakersfield on February 19. A fourth round selection, 107th overall, by the Colorado Avalanche in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, the 26-year-old Petruk has an overall record of 14-10-2 in 28 games, while sporting a 2.86 goals-against average and save percentage of .901.
