Sea Wolves Nip IceGators 4-3

LAFAYETTE, La. Mississippi captain Louis Dumont tallied a goal and two assists to help halt the Sea Wolves four-game losing steak on the road by edging the Louisiana IceGators 4-3 at the Cajundome.

It was a great way to start the weekend, Mississippi coach Bob Woods said. I thought we played well especially the final 40 minutes. It was a rough game with a lot of cheap shots, but we maintained composure when we needed to and it paid off.

Mississippi (26-19-4, 56 points) opened the score on the power-play. Louis Dumont tucked a shot under the crossbar and over the right shoulder of goaltender Nathan Marsters for his 15th goal of the season at 5:21 of the first period. Anthony Battaglia and Mike Jarmuth registered assists.

Louisiana (19-28-4, 42 points) evened the score at the 16:05 mark. Chris Thompson deposited a rebound from the slot beating Phil Sauve. Thompsons 15th of the campaign was assisted by Wes Mason and Bryan Perez.

The Sea Wolves went ahead at 1:07 of the second period with another man advantage. Some quick passes from Bates Battaglia to Dumont in front to Anthony Battaglia, who tallied his team-leading 20th goal of the year, making it 2-1 for Mississippi.

The IceGators responded with a power-play of their own. Mason netted his team-leading 24th of the season at 5:27 set up by Thompson and Doug MacIver to tie the score at 2-2.

Mississippi grabbed the lead for the third time in the game at 13:54 of the middle stanza. Austin Miller unleashed a point shot that found the back of the net to count his fifth of the campaign. The lone helper went to Dumont.

Louisiana tied the score for the third time in the hockey game at 3:10 of the third. Mason took a lead feed from Maxime Fortunus and snapped a shot from the right wing past the stick of Sauve for his second of the game, 25th of the year. Thompson also had an assist.

But 19 seconds later, Darryl Campbell re-directed a centering pass from Lucas Drake to cash in his third of the season, which was the eventual game-winner. An assist also went to Nicolas Corbeil.

Mississippi converted on 2-of-3 power play chances, while Louisiana went 2-for-5. IceGators outshot the Sea Wolves 33-30.
