Mississippi Announces Top Players In January

BILOXI, Miss. � Mississippi Sea Wolves Professional Hockey announced today that left wing Jeff Hutchins has been named the organization�s Player of the Month for January, defenseman Mike Jarmuth (JAHR-muhth) is the Rookie of the Month, while Matt Underhill takes the Goaltender of the Month honors.


In 10 games, the Sea Wolves compiled an 8-2-0 record to register a .800 winning percentage, which is the best-ever in the month of January over the nine-year history of the team.

 

Hutchins, 26, is currently on loan to Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League. The 6-foot and 205-pound Hutchins tallied four goals, including one power-play marker, one game-winning goal and eight points in seven games with Mississippi in January to go along with a plus/minus of +7. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Hutchins appeared in his first ECHL All-Star Game on January 26 at Reading, Pennsylvania, where he picked up an assist. Hutchins leads Mississippi with 18 goals and six-power play goals and has 16 assists, 34 points and a plus/minus rating of +16 in 35 games.

Jarmuth, 22, led Mississippi with a plus/minus of +9 in January, while notching four goals including one power-play tally, one game-winner and eight points in 10 games. Overall this season, the 6-foot and 205-pound Jarmuth is tied for the ECHL lead among defenseman with nine goals and is ranked first among ECHL blueliners with an 11.4 percent shooting efficiency. As a rookie defenseman, Jarmuth has scored in three consecutive games and is riding a five-game point streak (4g-3a), while collecting eight assists, 17 points, a plus/minus of +5 and 10 penalty minutes in 38 games this season. A native of Monkton, Ontario, Jarmuth attended the 2004 American Hockey League training camp of the Rochester Americans.

Underhill, 25, is riding a five-game win streak appearing in each of the last five games with Mississippi. The 6-foot-2 and 220-pound Underhill posted an 8-1-0 record in nine games, registered two shutouts over that span plus compiled a 1.88 goals-against average and .947 save percentage. A native of Campbell River, British Columbia, Underhill has played in a total of 22 games this season with Mississippi sporting an overall record of 13-6-3 with three shutouts, a 2.48 goals-against average and .929 save percentage.

The Sea Wolves get back on the ice at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday against the Texas Wildcatters at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. There will be a postgame player appearance at Mario The Baker, which is open for all ages, located at 1753 Beach Boulevard in Biloxi.
