Wildcatters Top Sea Wolves 5-3

BILOXI, Miss. Texas scored four goals in the third period including two by John Snowden to give the Wildcatters a 5-3 victory over Mississippi, halting the Sea Wolves season-high win streak at five, before 2,607 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

We were taught a lesson tonight, Mississippi coach Bob Woods said. I hope our guys learn that lesson well. If you dont put out the effort, youre not going to win. I dont care who you play. We just made Fridays home game against Pensacola an almost must-win.

Goaltending was the story of the first period. Mississippi outshot Texas 11-9 in the opening stanza, with the Sea Wolves Matt Underhill and Wildcatters Davis Parley keeping the game scoreless.

Texas (9-24-8, 26 points) opened the score at 5:18 of the second. Jeremy Swanson let go with a point shot, which was re-directed by Kevin Cooper for his 11th tally of the season. Ryan Fultz also had an assist.

Mississippi (21-15-3, 45 points) had their best chance on a backhand shot in close from Nicolas Corbeil, but Parley, who turned away all 21 Sea Wolves shots through two periods, made a fantastic save.

In the third, the offense for both teams kicked in. Snowden scored the first of two at the 2:43 mark assisted by Andrew Ianiero.

Texas went up 3-0 at 3:35, as Kamil Kreps scored his first in a Wildcatters uniform in his third game with the team since being assigned by San Antonio of the American Hockey League on January 27. Rob Globke and Aaron MacInnis picked up helpers.

Sea Wolves shaved the lead to a pair on the power play. John Evangelista tallied his first goal since returning in a trade with Peoria on January 19 and in the process extended his point streak to five games. Milt Mastad and Lucas Drake had assists.

Snowden went back to work and fired a shot shelf on Underhill netting his second of the game and 17th of the campaign to make it 4-1 for Texas. Mark Giannetti had the lone assist.

Evangelista closed the margin to two, snapping a shot from the slot to register his second of the contest and third of the year set up by Drake and Mike Jarmuth, who extended his point streak to six games.

The Sea Wolves pulled within one at 15:20. Jarmuth deposited a loose puck in front to extend his goal scoring streak to four games. Assists went to Evangelista and Drake.

Mississippi pulled Underhill for the extra attacker, but Globke slid the puck into the empty net to put the game away at the 19:00 mark.

Mississippi converted on 1-of-4 power play chances, while Texas went 0-for-4. Sea Wolves outshot the Wildcatters 36-25.

The Sea Wolves complete theirs its four-game homestand against the Pensacola Ice Pilots on Friday. The puck will drop at 7:35 p.m. at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
