Sea Wolves Sign Sauve

BILOXI, Miss. � Mississippi Sea Wolves general manager and head coach Bob Woods announced today that the team has signed free agent goaltender Phil Sauve (SOH-vay).

Sauve, 24, appeared in 17 games with the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League last season, compiling a 7-7-3 record, 3.04 goals-against average and .896 save percentage. Selected by the Colorado Avalanche in the second round, 38th overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Sauve was named Most Valuable Player at the 2004 NHL Youngstars Game, turning away 18-of-21 shots as the Western Conference defeated the Eastern Conference 7-3 at St. Paul, Minnesota. The 6-foot and 195-pound Sauve earned his first NHL victory on November 6, 2003 in his fourth NHL game with Colorado against the Phoenix Coyotes making 27 saves in the 2-1 Avalanche victory. Born in Buffalo, New York and residing in Montreal, Quebec, Sauve also played in 10 games in 2003-04 with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, posting a 3-7-0 record, with two shutouts, a 2.59 goals-against average and .910 save percentage. Phil�s father, Bob Sauve, played 13 NHL seasons from 1976-89 as a goaltender with the Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks and New Jersey Devils.

In other Sea Wolves news, defenseman Mike Martone (MAHR-tohn) has been placed on the 7-day injured reserve.
 
Martone, 27, played in 35 games with Mississippi this season, tallying one goal, six assists and 56 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-3 and 215-pound Martone is in his fourth professional season and fourth year with the Sea Wolves. A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Martone is Mississippi�s alternate captain and was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the fourth round, 106th overall, in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.

The 2005 Coors Light ECHL All-Star Game will be played tonight featuring Sea Wolves center Nicolas Corbeil and left wing Jeff Hutchins at Reading, Pennsylvania.

Flagship radio station WGCM-AM 1240 will be broadcasting the ECHL All-Star Game live beginning with the pregame show at 5:45 p.m.

Watch the ECHL All-Star Game satellite telecast at 6 p.m. at Sea Wolves sponsors, the Village Sports Pub in Biloxi and Beef O�Brady�s in D�Iberville.

The ECHL, in association with Yahoo! Broadcast, is also making the telecast available online with live broadband video for the third year in a row. The live broadcast video requires a minimum connection speed of 100 Kbytes and Real Player. Dial-up customers will be able to listen to the radio broadcast on Yahoo! Broadcast, marking the seventh consecutive year that Yahoo! has carried the ECHL All-Star Game audio broadcast live on the Internet.

The Sea Wolves get back into action at 7:35 p.m. on Friday
against the Pee Dee Pride at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Promotions consist of Military 2-for-1, sponsored by Keesler Federal Credit Union, which offers all military personnel, active or retired, two tickets for the price of one by showing military identification at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum box office. It�s also SeaBee Appreciation Night and St. Martin High School Night with a performance by the St. Martin Yellow Jacket Band.

Mississippi also hosts Pee Dee at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday. Promotions feature $2 hotdogs and $2 drafts from 6:30-8:30 p.m., there�s a
Mardi Gras Parade On Ice, plus a Mardi Gras Jersey Raffle to benefit the Gulf Coast Youth Hockey Association.
