Mississippi Continues Winning Ways

BILOXI, Miss. � The Mississippi Sea Wolves won their only game last week to extend their win streak to four games overall, remaining unbeaten in 2005 with three of the victories coming since January 1.

On Saturday, Mississippi blanked Texas 1-0 at Ford Arena in Beaumont on the strength of 31 saves by goaltender Matt Underhill and a power-play goal from Jeff Hutchins, who will represent the Sea Wolves at the 2005 Coors Light ECHL All-Star Game.
 
After 31 of 72 regular season ECHL games, the Sea Wolves sit four games above .500 with a record of 16-12-3 and 35 points.

Mississippi is in fourth place in the South Division and ranks tied for seventh place with the Greenville Grrrowl in the 12-team American Conference, where the top eight teams make the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

The Sea Wolves are 8-7-1 at home, 8-5-2 on the road, 2-2 in overtime games and 2-1 in shootouts.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK � Left wing Jeff Hutchins scored Mississippi�s only goal of the week in the Sea Wolves 1-0 win at Texas on Saturday. The 6-foot and 205-pound Hutchins was selected as Mississippi�s only representative at the 2005 Coors Light ECHL All-Star Game to be held on January 26 at Reading, Pennsylvania. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Hutchins leads the Sea Wolves with 17 goals including a team-high six power-play markers and a plus/minus of +12. Through 31 games, the 26-year-old is also second on the team with 32 points and 108 penalty minutes.

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK � Matt Underhill backstopped the Sea Wolves to his second shutout of the season by turning away all 31 shots in Mississippi�s 1-0 victory at Texas on Saturday. The 25-year-old Underhill has appeared in 16 games posting a record of 8-5-3 this season. A native of Campbell River, British Columbia, Underhill has a team-leading 2.72 goals-against average and .920 save percentage.
