Sea Wolves Whip Wildcatters 9-2

BILOXI, Miss. Mississippis Travis Lisabeth tied a team record with six points and set a new team record with five assists, while Jeff Hutchins notched his first career hat trick to lead the Mississippi Sea Wolves to a 9-2 throttling of the Texas Wildcatters in front of 4,269 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

It was definitely a nice game all the way around for us, Mississippi coach Bob Woods said. Everyone was clicking on all cylinders and the power play got rolling with a season-high four goals. Its a great way to head out on a six-game road trip beginning Friday in Victoria, British Columbia.

Mississippi (7-9-2, 16 points) got rolling with the man advantage. Rookie Mike Jarmuth hammered home a hard slap shot that beat goaltender Davis Parley at the 3:36 mark. Jarmuths fourth goal of the season was assisted by Milt Mastad and Louis Dumont.

Sea Wolves went up 2-0 at 14:01. Hutchins blasted a shot from the slot by Parley for his seventh goal of the season. Jay Legault and Lisabeth picked up the helpers.

Mississippi rookie Lucas Drake tallied his first professional goal on a backhand in front of the Texas net at 15:19, giving the Sea Wolves a 3-0 lead. Pat OLeary and Darryl Campbell garnered assists.

Texas (5-9-5, 15 points) scored its first goal in seven periods at 5:56 of the middle stanza. Wildcatters captain Brian Stacey floated a left point shot through traffic past Matt Underhill. Assists went to Dean Stork and Terry Marchant, who picked up his first point in a Texas uniform since being acquired in trade with Augusta on Tuesday.

Sea Wolves regained their three-goal lead at 16:47. Nicolas Corbeil took a feed from Mike Martone and whistled a left circle shot in for his seventh of the campaign. Lisabeth also picked up his second assist of the night.

Anthony Battaglia made it 5-1 for Mississippi with a power-play tally with 1:33 remaining in the second. Assists were awarded to Corbeil and Chris Cava, who picked up his second helper in as many games.

Late in the second, Cava dropped the gloves with Jason Kostadine. Both players were assessed five minutes for fighting, while Kostadine drew an additional five-minute major for biting.

Sea Wolves took advantage in the ensuing power-play, netting two goals. Lisabeth scored his fifth of the year, while Hutchins scored his second of the night to make it 7-1 for Mississippi. With that goal, Phil Osaer took over in the Wildcatters net for Parley.

Texas responded with a goal on the man advantage at 8:11. Andrew Ianiero converted on a pass from Lou Dickenson. John Snowden also garnered an assist.

Mississippi kept coming in the third. Hutchins went in on a breakaway at 11:02 to score his third of the game and team-leading ninth of the year. Lisabeth collected his fourth helper of the game and Jarmuth also assisted.

To round out the scoring, Jay Legault cut in front of the Texas net to deposit his first goal in a Sea Wolves uniform. Lisabeth picked up his team record fifth assist of the game and Austin Miller also grabbed a helper. Lisabeths six points ties Forbes MacPherson, who had two goals and four assists for Mississippi on December 28, 1997 against the Mobile Mysticks.

Mississippi converted on 4-of-5 power play chances, while Texas went 2-for-5. Sea Wolves outshot the Wildcatters 36-31.
