Lynx Drop Sea Wolves 3-1

BILOXI, Miss. Matus Kostur made 33 saves to backstop the Augusta Lynx over the Mississippi Sea Wolves 3-1 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

We didnt play well tonight, Mississippi associate coach Steffon Walby said. A post here or there would have made a difference but in the end the effort as a team wasnt good enough. There is no one guy stepping up and making a difference. We need someone to take the bull by the horns.

Mississippi (4-6-1, 9 points) opened the score at the 18:54 mark. Nicolas Corbeil banged in a loose puck at the side beating Matus Kostur, scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Louis Dumont and Anthony Battaglia picked up assists.

Augusta (4-4-1, 9 points) knotted the score on the power play in the second period. Louis Goulet, who extends his point streak to seven, unleashed a shot from the slot through traffic past Matt Underhill at 3:11. Goulets third of the season was assisted by Jamie Johnson and Terry Marchant.

In the third, the Lynx grabbed the lead, as Rod Sarich would score the eventual game-winner on a point shot into the back of the net for his second of the campaign. Matt Schmidt and Ken Magowan garnered helpers.

With under two minutes remaining in regulation, Sea Wolves Dumont hit the goal post and the rebound bounced out.

Jarrett Thompson finished off the scoring with an empty-net goal at 19:58, assisted by Chris Hajt.

Mississippi was unable to convert on five power play chances, while Augusta was successful on 1-of-5 man advantages. Lynx outshot the Sea Wolves 37-34.
