BILOXI, Miss. The Mississippi Sea Wolves scored three goals in the shootout to treat 2,573 fans to a 3-2 victory over the Texas Wildcatters on Halloween at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
It was a nice way to complete three games in three days, Mississippi coach Bob Woods said. We did what we had to do in the shootout, scoring on all three chances. There were a lot of positives to take from this game, but now we have to turn our focus to Pensacola coming into Biloxi on Tuesday.
Texas (1-2-1, 3 points) got rolling with its first shot of the game. Just 19 seconds into action, Andrew Ianiero fed a pass to John Snowden, who beat Jason Wolfe with a shot to the stick side. Dean Stork also picked up an assist.
The ensuing shift, the Sea Wolves Lee Jacobson battled the Wildcatters Thomas Bellemare to a draw.
Mississippis (3-2-0, 6 points) best chance of the opening period came off a point shot from Mike Jarmuth, but Texas goaltender Davis Parley made a huge glove save, which was one of eight stops made in the first.
In the second, the Sea Wolves got on the board with a shorthand goal at 6:42. Mike Martone started the Sea Wolves attack getting the puck to Louis Dumont, who spotted Anthony Battaglia, who in turn converted his first goal of the season.
Wildcatters Snowden netted his second of the game at 2:57 of the third, scoring from a near impossible angle along the goal line giving Texas a 2-1 lead.
Mississippi got the equalizer with 2:22 remaining in regulation. Nicolas Corbeil fed Travis Lisabeth, who jammed in his second goal in as many games. Milt Mastad also garnered a helper.
After a scoreless overtime, Ryan Fultz registered a goal in the shootout for Texas. Mississippi received goals from Jacobson, Kerry Ellis-Toddington and Nicolas Corbeil. Wolfe made a stop on Mark Wires to end the game.
Mississippi failed to score on three power play chances, while Texas went 0-for-2. Sea Wolves outshot the Wildcatters 34-31.
