Mississippi Splits Opening Weekend Games

BILOXI, Miss. � The Mississippi Sea Wolves opened their first week of the 2004-05 regular season by winning one and losing one in two home games.

The Sea Wolves are tied for second place in the ECHL�s South Division along with the Florida Everblades, Pensacola Ice Pilots and Texas Wildcatters. Mississippi sits in a five-way tie for fifth place along with the Columbia Inferno, Florida, Pensacola and Texas in the American Conference, where the top eight teams of 12 will make the postseason.

* Season opener for both teams

PLAYER OF THE WEEK � Defenseman Kerry Ellis-Toddington leads Mississippi in goals with two and is tied for the team lead with a plus/minus of +3 after netting a goal in each of the Sea Wolves opening two games. The 6-foot-1 and 205-pound Ellis-Toddington tallied Mississippi�s first goal of season in the 3-1 win on Friday against Louisiana, scoring at 4:47 of the first period. On Saturday, the native of Regina, Saskatchewan notched the Sea Wolves only power-play goal of the week versus Pensacola in the 4-2 defeat. Ellis-Toddington is in his third season of pro hockey and second year with Mississippi.

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK � Jason Wolfe appeared in both games last week for Mississippi, posting a 1-1-0 record. The 6-foot-3 and 230-pound Wolfe backstopped the Sea Wolves to a 3-1 victory by turning aside 39 shots in his Mississippi debut on Friday over Louisiana. On Saturday, the native of College Park, Maryland made 38 stops in the 4-2 loss to Pensacola. Wolfe, who is in his third full professional season and first year with the Sea Wolves, has a 2.50 goals-against average and sparkling .939 save percentage.
