Mississippi Trims Roster By Four |
BILOXI, Miss. � Mississippi Sea Wolves general manager and coach Bob Woods announced today that left wing Tyler Bellamy (BEHL-ah-mee), goaltender Brian Gallagher, right wing Justin Messer and defenseman Rickard Oquist (RIH-kahrd OH-quihst) have been released by the team.
Bellamy, 21, played 2003-04 with the Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League. The 6-foot and 185-pound Bellamy tallied seven goals, 15 points and 112 penalty minutes in 31 games.
Gallagher, 22, helped Ohio University to the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 1 Championship last season. The 6-foot and 180-pound Gallagher set single-season school records in 2003-04 with six shutouts, 1.63 goals against average and 23 victories. Named 2004 National Player of the Year for ACHA Division I, Gallagher compiled an overall record of 23-2-1. A native of Kent, Ohio, Gallagher enters his first year of professional hockey.
Messer, 22, was the first-ever locally-born player to tryout for the Sea Wolves after playing his entire youth hockey in the Gulf Coast Youth Hockey Association in Biloxi. Last season, Messer played inline hockey for Crescent City in New Orleans of the Crescent City Hockey League. The 5-foot-7 and 170-pound Messer netted four goals, 10 points and zero penalty minutes in six games at the Under-20 Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympics.
Oquist, 21, enters his first season of professional hockey in North America after playing last season with Botkyrka HC of the Swedish Division One League. The 6-foot and 195-pound native of Stockholm, Sweden registered one goal, two points and four penalty minutes in 11 games with Botkyrka.
The Sea Wolves roster now stands at 22.
Goaltenders (2): Randy Hevey and Jason Wolfe.
Defense (9): Chris Cava, Kerry Ellis-Toddington, Lee Jacobson, Mike Jarmuth, Jason Kean, Mike Martone, Milt Mastad, Austin Miller and Patrick Rochon.
Forwards (11): Anthony Battaglia, Darryl Campbell, Nicolas Corbeil, Bobby Cunningham, Lucas Drake, Louis Dumont, Jeff Hutchins, Andy Johnson, Jay Legault, Travis Lisabeth and Tristan Lush.
The Sea Wolves open their ninth season as a member of the 28-team ECHL at 7:35 p.m. on Friday, hosting the Louisiana IceGators at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. It�s �2-for-1 Military Night�, sponsored by Keesler Federal Credit Union. Fans are asked to bring �Care Package Items� to be delivered to the troops in Iraq. Each fan that brings an item will receive a free voucher to a future Sea Wolves game.
At 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, Mississippi hosts the Pensacola Ice Pilots at the Wolves Den. The promotion for the game is $2 hotdogs and $2 drafts from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
