ESTERO, Fla. � In the second game of a two-game preseason series, Florida Everblades goaltender Craig Kowalski made 23 saves for a 2-0 shutout victory over the Mississippi Sea Wolves in front of 4,951 at Germain Arena.
�It was good hockey game for preseason,� Mississippi general manager and coach Bob Woods said. �Florida has a solid hockey team. We have some work to do and some cuts to make. There are going to be some tough decisions. It�s going to be busy week getting ready for the opening weekend home games on Friday and Saturday.�
Florida opened the score at 13:38 of the first period. Damian Surma beat Jason Wolfe, who made a total of 17 saves. Ernie Hartlieb and Jim Abbott picked up assists.
The score remained 1-0 for the Everblades until the 8:55 mark of the third. Hartlieb tallied the goal for his second point of the game, beating Randy Hevey, who turned away 20 shots. Abbott collected the lone assist, which was his second helper of the contest.
Mississippi failed to score on four power play opportunities, while Florida also went 0-for-4. Everblades outshot the Sea Wolves 39-23.
Additional notes: Mississippi finishes with a 1-2 preseason record, while Florida went 2-0 � Mississippi players that were not in the lineup consisted of Tyler Bellamy, Brian Gallagher, Jason Kean, Justin Messer, Austin Miller and Patrick Rochon.
Mississippi drops the puck on the regular season at 7:35 p.m. on Friday, as the Sea Wolves entertain the Louisiana IceGators at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. It�s 2-for-1 Military, sponsored by Keesler Federal Credit Union. Fans are asked to bring �Care Package Items� to be delivered to the troops in Iraq. Each fan that brings an item will receive a free voucher to a future Sea Wolves game.
At 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, Mississippi hosts the Pensacola Ice Pilots at the Wolves Den. The game promotion consists of $2 hotdogs and $2 drafts from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
