Campbell Returns To Sea Wolves

BILOXI, Miss. Mississippi Sea Wolves general manager and coach Bob Woods announced today free agent left wing Darryl Campbell has signed a one-year-contract.

Campbell, 27, did not play professional hockey last season, while taking business classes in Ontario. In the 2002-03 campaign, the 6-foot and 195-pound Campbell posted career-highs with Mississippi notching 15 goals, 17 assists and 32 points. A native of Strathroy, Ontario, Campbell had a career-high six-game point streak (6g-6a) with the Sea Wolves from February 15-28, 2003 and collected back-to-back three point games on February 18, 2003 (1g-2a) at Florida and February 22, 2003 (2g-1a) at Baton Rouge. Campbell enters his fourth professional season and second year with the Sea Wolves.

I am really excited to have the opportunity to play professionally again and work with the Sea Wolves coaching staff once more, said Campbell. By taking a year off, I have a new hunger for the game and look forward to the challenge. I believe Mississippi is going to have a great chance at winning a championship this season and I want to make the most of the opportunity.

Every team needs a great versatile player like Darryl, said Woods. I like his work ethic and style of play. He can play any forward position, has an offensive touch and is an excellent penalty killer. Campbell will fit very nicely into our lineup this season.

Campbell becomes the 18th player to sign for the 2004-05 season with Mississippi. He joins forwards Anthony Battaglia, Nicolas Corbeil, Bobby Cunningham, Lucas Drake, Louis Dumont, Jeff Hutchins, Jay Legault, Travis Lisabeth and Tristan Lush. Defensemen inked to deals include Kerry Ellis-Toddington, Mike Jarmuth, Jason Kean, Mike Martone, Milt Mastad and Austin Miller along with goaltenders Randy Hevey and Jason Wolfe.

The Sea Wolves drop the puck on their ninth ECHL season on October 22 against the Louisiana IceGators at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
