Mississippi 'Kean' To Re-Sign Defenseman

BILOXI, Miss. Mississippi Sea Wolves general manager and coach Bob Woods announced today the team has re-signed defenseman Jason Kean (KEEN). As per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.

Kean, 25, was named Mississippis Rookie of the Year in 2003-04. After signing as a free agent on November 23, the 5-foot-11 and 195-pound Kean appeared in 39 games with the Sea Wolves, tallying one goal, nine points and 67 penalty minutes. A native of Nanaimo, British Columbia, Kean started his first professional season in Germany with Peiting EC of the German Oberliga South. In 11 contests, Kean finished with one goal and five points, while accumulating 37 penalty minutes.

Im definitely excited to be coming back, said Kean. As a rookie, I learned a lot last year with the Sea Wolves. The whole experience on and off the ice, will really help me this season in the ECHL. It looks like there is going to be a good team nucleus and Im looking forward to improving on last year.

Jason showed a lot of promise in his rookie year, said Woods. Kean ran into a few injury problems, but he was effective when he was healthy and we expect him to have a good second year.

Kean is the fifth defenseman and 14th Sea Wolves player to sign for the 2004-05 season. The other defensemen are Mike Jarmuth, Mike Martone, Milt Mastad and Austin Miller. Forwards that have inked deals include Anthony Battaglia, Nicolas Corbeil, Bobby Cunningham, Lucas Drake, Louis Dumont, Jeff Hutchins, Travis Lisabeth and Tristan Lush along with goaltender Randy Hevey.

The Sea Wolves drop the puck on their ninth ECHL season on October 22 against the Louisiana IceGators at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
