CHICAGO - The Chicago Blackhawks have re-signed center Jason Morgan, who played in the ECHL with Mississippi and Florida. The Blackhawks originally acquired Morgan along with a conditional draft pick from Calgary in exchange for Ville Nieminen on February 24, 2004.
Becoming the first Sea Wolves player to advance to the National Hockey League, Morgan appeared in three games with the Kings in 1996-97. Earlier that season, Morgan scored three goals in six regular season games with Mississippi. He would also return to the Sea Wolves and register two points (1g-1a) in three playoff games. Morgan also scored nine points (3g-6a) in 57 regular season games with Phoenix in the International Hockey League.
In 2003-04, the 27-year-old Morgan played 19 games in the NHL, registering two assists in 13 games with Calgary and two assists in six games with Nashville. He also played in the American Hockey League scoring 19 points (6g-13a) in 21 regular season games with Lowell and 14 points (6g-8a) in 19 regular season games and one assist in eight postseason games with Norfolk. The 6-1 and 200-pound Morgan returned to the ECHL in 1999-2000, scoring 39 points (14g-25a) in 48 regular season games and four points (2g-2a) in five playoff games with Florida. In 2000-01 with the Everblades, Morgan scored 37 points (15g-22a) in 48 regular season games and five points (2g-3a) in five playoff games.
He has scored 79 points (32g-47a) in 91 career regular season ECHL games and 11 points (5g-6a) in 13 career ECHL playoff games. Selected in the fifth round (118th overall) by Los Angeles in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, Morgan has played 33 career NHL games scoring five points (1g-4a). He has scored 186 points (64g-122a) in 326 career regular season AHL games and has three points (1g-2a) in 20 career AHL postseason games.
