BILOXI, Miss. Mississippi Sea Wolves general manager and coach Bob Woods announced today that the team has re-signed defenseman Austin Miller.
Miller, 26, returns to Mississippi for his fourth season, the team where he has played his entire pro career. The 6-foot-1 and 210-pound Miller netted three goals and 11 points in 68 games last season with the Sea Wolves, while racking up 43 penalty minutes.
Im definitely prepared to become more of a leader this year, said Miller. After losing in the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs last season (to Gwinnett in five games), it left a bitter taste in my mouth. This year is going to be a year, where well be looking to redeem ourselves. Ive been on a workout program this summer to do what I can to help change the end result for this upcoming season.
Its great to bring back a defenseman like Austin, said Woods. He knows our system and what were all about. Well be counting on Miller even more this season to continue his solid play and help take on more of a leadership role.
Miller becomes the second defenseman and fifth player to sign with Mississippi for the 2004-05 season, joining veteran center Louis Dumont, left wing Anthony Battaglia, left wing Lucas Drake and veteran defenseman Milt Mastad.
The Sea Wolves open their ninth ECHL season at home on October 22 against their rival Louisiana IceGators at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
