Mississippi Needs Win To Stay Alive

BILOXI, Miss. � The Mississippi Sea Wolves face a must-win situation against the Gwinnett Gladiators in Game 4 on Monday at Duluth, Georgia, as Gwinnett leads the best-of-five Central Division Semifinals, 2 games to 1.

GAME 1 RECAP � Gwinnett edged Mississippi 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Gladiators� Chris Durno scored at 16:12 of overtime to give Gwinnett a 1-0 series lead. Rick Emmett scored the other goal for Gwinnett, while Anthony Battaglia scored Mississippi�s lone tally.

GAME 2 RECAP � Mississippi�s Sergei Kuznetsov scored two goals including the game-winner on the power-play with just 23 seconds left in regulation to propel the Sea Wolves to 4-3 victory over Gwinnett, tying the series at one game apiece. Sea Wolves also picked up goals from Louis Dumont and Anthony Battaglia. Gladiators goals were scored by Rick Emmett, Blue Bennefield and Jim Jackson.

GAME 3 RECAP � Gwinnett�s Steve Slonina scored a shorthand in the second period, giving the Gladiators a lead that they would not relinquish in a 6-3 victory over Mississippi, giving the Gladiators a 2-1 series lead in the best-of-five Central Division Semifinals. Gladiators� Kris Goodjohn netted a pair, while Chris Durno, Cam Brown and Brandon Dietrich also scored. Sea Wolves received goals from Yannick Tremblay, Brent Gauvreau and Patrick Rochon in the loss.
 
PLAYER OF THE WEEK � Center Sergei Kuznetsov tallied two goals and four assists over three games to lead Mississippi in the opening week of the 2004 Kelly Cup Playoffs. A native of Yaroslavl, Russia, Kuznetsov picked up an assist in the Game 1 overtime loss against Gwinnett on Wednesday. He recorded two goals including the game-winner and added a helper in the Sea Wolves Game 2 win on Friday over the Gladiators. The 6-foot and 200-pound Kuznetsov collected two assists in the Game 3 defeat at Duluth, Georgia on Saturday.
 
GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK � Greg Gardner appeared in all three games last week, posting a 1-2 record with a 3.08 goals against average and .907 save percentage. The 6-foot and 190-pound Gardner made a total of 97 saves on 107 shots last week.
