COLUMBUS, Ga. Due to a major rut in the ice at the Columbus Civic Center, the game between Mississippi and Columbus was delayed after 40 minutes of action. The safety of the players was at risk. The game will resume tomorrow at 10 a.m. CT with the Cottonmouths leading the Sea Wolves 3-2.
Its unfortunate for the fans, Mississippi coach Bob Woods said. It was an entertaining two periods, but the safety of the players is first and foremost. Its a big game for both teams that will have to wait until tomorrow.
Columbus received goals from Mitch Fritz, Dan Tessier and Ryan Risidore, while Mississippi picked up power-play goals from Steffon Walby and Sergei Kuznetsov.
Worth Noting: Brent Gauvreau assisted on Walbys goal at 4:17 of the second. The helper for Gauvreau extended his point streak to 14 consecutive games, which is a team record surpassing Travis Lisabeth (2003-04) and Kelly Hurd (1998-99). Louis Dumont assisted on the Kuznetsov tally at 11:41 of the middle stanza. The assist for Dumont, who is the leagues all-time point and assist leader, was his 750th career ECHL point becoming the first player in history to accomplish the feat.
Broadcast of the game coverage will resume at 10 a.m. CT tomorrow on ESPN Radio WXBD-AM 1490 and online at msseawolves.com.
