Sea Wolves Acquire Proskurnicki

BILOXI, Miss. Mississippi Sea Wolves coach and director of hockey operations Bob Woods announced today that the team has acquired left wing Andrew Proskurnicki (PRAHS-kur-nihk-ee) in a trade with the Cincinnati Cyclones for future considerations.

Proskurnicki, 25, returns to the Sea Wolves after playing with the team during the 1999-00 season. In his first tenure with Mississippi, the 6-foot-3 and 210-pound Proskurnicki tallied six goals, 15 points and 146 penalty minutes in 26 games. A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Proskurnicki started this season with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL, notching one goal and six points and 65 penalty minutes in 28 contests. He appeared in 17 games with Cincinnati, netting one goal, six points and 18 penalty minutes. Proskurnicki was selected by the New York Rangers in the eighth round, 210th overall in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.

Last year in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, Andrew was one of the better players for Louisiana, said Woods. Hell help replace Jeff Hutchins (who signed a standard players contract with Rochester of the American Hockey League), by bringing good skill and a physical presence. Proskurnicki is also happy to be coming back to play for Mississippi.

Proskurnicki is expected to be in the Sea Wolves lineup at 6:35 p.m. tonight against the Pensacola Ice Pilots at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. The broadcast of the game starts at 6:20 p.m. with the Nextel Pregame Show on ESPN Radio WXBD-AM 1490 and online at msseawolves.com.
