Gardner Returns; Matile Placed On IR

BILOXI, Miss. � The Mississippi Sea Wolves of the ECHL announced that goaltender Greg Gardner has been reassigned to the team by the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League and goaltender Sean Matile (mah-TEEL) has been placed on the 7-day injured reserve.

Gardner, 28, joined Rochester on January 1, but did not see any game action with the Americans. Under contract to Rochester, Gardner was recalled by the team from December 7-18, but also did not appear in any games. The 6-foot and 190-pound native of Mississauga, Ontario has appeared in 21 games with Mississippi this season, posting a 10-8-3 record, 2.65 goals against average and .919 save percentage. Gardner attended the 2003 training camps with Rochester and for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League.

Matile, 28, made 40 saves last night at Louisiana, backstopping the Sea Wolves to a 5-4 victory. The 6-foot-4 and 215-pound Matile has an overall record of 11-2-3, with a 2.81 goals against average and .909 save percentage. He was named Runner Up for the Sun National Bank ECHL Saver of the Month for December.

Kaleb Christenson will be Mississippi�s emergency back-up goaltender.

Mississippi concludes its three-game road swing at 3 p.m. today against the Columbus Cottonmouths at the Columbus Civic Center. The game broadcast begins at 2:45 p.m. with the Nextel Pregame Show on WTNI-AM 1640 and online at msseawolves.com.

The Sea Wolves start a four-game homestand at 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday against the Gwinnett Gladiators at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. It�s the first and only visit to Biloxi for the former Mobile Mysticks, which are now based out of Duluth, Georgia.
