PRINCETON, N.J. - Mississippi right wing Steffon Walby is the Sher-Wood ECHL Player of the Month for December.
Walby led the ECHL with 22 points (10g-12a) and had three power-play goals, two game-winning goals and a plus-minus rating of +12 in 13 games as Mississippi went 11-2-1 in December.
Walby began the month scoring two goals and three points in a 5-4 win against Pensacola on December 5. He scored two goals, including the game winner, and had three-points on December 7 in a 5-3 win at Louisiana, and scored two goals and three points in a 4-0 win against Columbus on December 20 and finished the month with six multiple-point games including four points (1g-3a) in Mississippi's 9-2 win at Texas on December 19.
Selected as a starter in the 2004 Par-A-Dice ECHL All-Star Game for the second straight year, Walby ended the month of December leading the ECHL with 47 points and was tied for the ECHL plus-minus lead with a +25 rating in 26 games. He was tied for third in the league with 18 goals, 29 assists and 19 power-play points (5g-14a) and was tied for fourth with 14 power-play assists.
For the second consecutive season in 2002-03, Walby was named First Team All-ECHL at right wing after tying for the league lead with seven shorthand goals and finishing second in the league with 10 game-winning goals. He tied for second in the league with 42 goals and 18 power-play goals while ranking fifth in scoring with a team-leading 89 points (42g-47a). In 2001-02, Walby became the first Mississippi player to be named First Team All-ECHL when he shared right wing honors with Rick Kowalsky.
