Mississippi Announces Top December Players

BILOXI, Miss. � Mississippi Sea Wolves Professional Hockey announced today that right wing Steffon Walby has been named the organization�s Player of the Month for December, defenseman Jason Kean is the Rookie of the Month, while Sean Matile takes the Goaltender of the Month honors.

The Sea Wolves finished their best-ever record in the month of December, in the eight-year history of the team, going 11-2-1.

Walby, 31, led Mississippi with 10 goals and 22 points, while playing in 13 games during the month of December. The 6-foot, 200-pound Walby also had three power-play goals, two game-winning goals and a plus/minus of +12. Walby was named a Starter for the Western Conference at the ECHL All-Star Game to be held on January 21 at Peoria, Illinois.

Kean, 24, scored his first ECHL goal on December 12 at Pensacola and added two assists in nine games. The 5-foot-11 and 195-pound native of Nanaimo, British Columbia also posted a plus/minus of +1.

Matile, 28, went unbeaten in regulation while appearing in nine games during December, compiling an 8-0-1 record. The 6-foot-4 and 215-pound Matile had a 2.59 goals against average and .909 save percentage. Matile is in his fifth season of pro hockey and second season with the Sea Wolves.

The Sea Wolves hit the ice with two home games this weekend starting at 7:35 p.m. on Friday against the Columbia Inferno at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. It�s 2-for-1 military night, courtesy of Keesler Federal Credit Union. The game can be heard beginning at 7:20 p.m. with the Nextel Pregame Show on ESPN Radio WXBD-AM 1490 and online at www.msseawolves.com.

On Saturday at 7:35 p.m., Mississippi hosts the Louisiana IceGators at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Promotions include $2 drafts and $2 hotdogs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and �Teddy Bear Toss Night.� Fans are asked to bring a stuffed animal to throw on ice after Sea Wolves first goal to benefit the local police and fire department for children at accident scenes. The broadcast will start at 7:20 p.m. with the Nextel Pregame Show on WTNI-AM 1640 and online at www.msseawolves.com.
