PRINCETON, N.J. - Mississippi goaltender Greg Gardner is the ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week for December 15-21.
Under contract to Rochester of the American Hockey League, Gardner was 2-0-0 with a shutout, a 1.50 goals against average and a .948 save percentage as the Sea Wolves went 3-0-0, extending their winning streak to four games and their road unbeaten streak to an ECHL season-high six games. Gardner is 3-0-0 with a 1.33 goals against average in the last 10 games during which Mississippi has gone 9-0-1 to improve to 17-8-5 and move atop the ECHL with 39 points, tied with Gwinnett (18-8-3) for first place in the Central Division of the Western Conference, and with Florida (17-6-5) of the Southern Division in the Eastern Conference.
The 6-0 and 190-pound Gardner made 34 saves and picked up his second shutout, tying him for the ECHL lead, in a 4-0 win against Columbus on Saturday. He returned between the pipes on Sunday and stopped 21 shots in a 6-3 win over Pensacola.
Gardner is 10-6-3 with a 2.56 goals against average and a .920 save percentage while ranking fifth in the ECHL with 564 saves in 19 games.
In 2002-03 with Mississippi, Gardner was 32-17-4 with a 2.77 goals against average in 55 regular season games. He ranked second in the ECHL with 32 wins while ranking third with 3,140 minutes, 1,651 saves and a .919 save percentage. He was 8-4 with a 2.03 goals against average and helped the Sea Wolves advance to the Southern Conference Finals of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
