PENSACOLA, Fla. Mississippis Louis Dumont tied the all-time ECHL scoring lead by registering an assist, however it was the Pensacola Ice Pilots storming back to score three third period goals to down the Sea Wolves, 4-3, before 2,708 at the Pensacola Civic Center.
We took undisciplined penalties, said Sea Wolves coach Bob Woods. We only have ourselves to blame for this one. Weve given up six points to Pensacola this season and Im not very pleased.
Dumont collected his 689th career ECHL point, tying Rod Taylor for the ECHL all-time point record at the 11:29 mark of the first period. Dumont assisted a power-play goal by Andrei Lupandin, who slapped a shot from the high slot past Brian Eklund. The point for Dumont also extended his point streak to six games. With the goal, Lupandin reached a milestone scoring the 50th of his pro career.
Pensacola (8-6-1) knotted the game on the power play in the second. Corey Neilson wired a one-time blast from the top of the left circle, beating Greg Gardner, for his fifth of the year at 1:40.
At 16:43, Mississippi (8-6-4) grabbed its lead back again with another man advantage. Ellis-Toddington wristed a shot past the blocker of Eklund from the slot, giving Ellis-Toddington his second goal of the season and first against his former team.
The Sea Wolves made it 3-1 at 18:09 of the middle stanza. Brent Gauvreau sent Jeff Hutchins in on a breakaway and he promptly notched his team-leading, career-high 11th goal of the year. Gauvreau, who was playing his 150th game in his Sea Wolves career, extended his point streak to nine games with the assist.
Pensacola started its comeback at 8:38 of the third with the man advantage. Dwayne Hay lifted a left circle shot over Gardner to make it a one-goal game. Hays goal was his team-leading eighth of the campaign.
Ice Pilots Brian Collins tied the score, by unleashing a shot from low left circle at a sharp angle at the 12:21 mark.
Then 16 seconds later, Aaron Phillips netted the eventual game-winner in close, for his fifth of the season.
Mississippi went 2-for-5 on the power play, while Pensacola converted on 2-of-9 opportunities. Ice Pilots outshot the Sea Wolves, 42-33.
Additional Notes: Mississippi played without its captain Steffon Walby, who remains on the 7-day injured reserve and Jim Baxter, who leads ECHL Defensemen in scoring.
