NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. � Mississippi�s captain Steffon Walby tallied a goal and three assists and ECHL Player of the Week, Brent Gauvreau, notched three assists, as the Sea Wolves doubled the South Carolina Stingrays, 6-3, before 3,909 at the North Charleston Coliseum.

�The first few minutes were rough, but once we settled in, it was a good effort,� said Sea Wolves coach Bob Woods. �Everyone contributed and this is a good way to start this six-game road trip. We�re using the trip as a time to gel as a team, and this was a good start.�

South Carolina (5-5-0) opened the score at the 1:15 mark. Rookie Colin Johnson unleashed a slap shot from the point and beat Greg Gardner for his first professional goal.

The Stingrays tallied again, less than three minutes into the game, as Kevin Spiewak deposited a wraparound, giving South Carolina a 2-0 lead.

On the next shift, Mississippi (5-3-3) enforcer Roger Maxwell dropped the gloves with Brent Henley, squaring off to a draw.

The fight seemed to spark the Sea Wolves. Steffon Walby sent a wrist shot past Kirk Daubenspeck from the right circle at 3:39 of the first period, cutting the Stingrays lead in half. Brent Gauvreau announced earlier in the day as the InGlasCo ECHL Player of the Week, picked up an assist, along with Jim Baxter.

Then 26 seconds later, Baxter snapped a shot over Daubenspeck�s left shoulder, tallying his second in two games, to knot the score 2-2, just 3:45 into the game. Gauvreau and Walby registered assists.

Mississippi took the lead for the first time in the game on the power play at 12:29. Sergei Kuznetsov took a pass from Kerry Ellis-Toddington, and buried his second goal in as many games, giving the Sea Wolves a 3-2 lead.

South Carolina would round out the scoring in a wild opening 20 minutes. Stingrays� captain Trevor Johnson found himself alone in the slot, and he hammered in his second of the campaign, making it 3-3 through one period.

The Sea Wolves grabbed back the lead in the second period. Jeff Hutchins deposited his team-leading ninth goal of the year at the side of the net on the power-play. Gauvreau and Walby collected the helpers.

In the third, South Carolina had a power play in the late going and pulled Daubenspeck in an effort to score the equalizer. But Walby fed Steve O�Rourke in the neutral zone. O'Rourke shot the puck 100 feet into the empty cage for his first goal of the season while short-handed, with 57 seconds remaining.

Travis Lisabeth added another empty-netter to round out the scoring.

Mississippi converted on 2-of-7 opportunities with the power play, while South Carolina failed to score on seven chances with the man advantage. Sea Wolves outshot the Stingrays, 45-41.

Mississippi continues its six-game road trip at 6:30 p.m. CT on Friday, against the Florence Pride at the Florence City-County Civic Center in South Carolina.
