BILOXI, Miss. � Mississippi Sea Wolves Professional Hockey announced today that left wing Jeff Hutchins has been named the organization�s Player of the Month for October, while Greg Gardner has been awarded the Goaltender of the Month honors.
Mississippi does not have a first-year pro on its roster, as a result there is no recipient for the Rookie of the Month.
The Sea Wolves finished October with a 3-2-2 record and sit in a tie for second place with eight points in the Central Division, along with Pensacola.
Hutchins, 25, netted a team-high six goals in October over seven games. He also added four assists, for a total of 10 points, while accumulating a plus/minus of +5. The 6-foot, 205-pound native of Toronto, Ontario attended the 2003 training camp of the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League. Hutchins is in his second season of pro hockey.
Gardner, 27, appeared in four games, backstopping Mississippi to a 2-1-1 record. The 6-foot, 190-pound native of Mississauga, Ontario posted a goals against average of 1.72 and .944 save percentage. The fourth year pro is under contract to the Rochester Americans of the AHL.
The Sea Wolves wrap up a three-game road trip tonight at Pensacola, with the puck dropping at 7:05 p.m. Listen live on WTNI-AM 1640 and across the internet, through the Sea Wolves web site at msseawolves.com. The Nextel Pregame Show begins 15 minutes prior to the opening faceoff.
