BILOXI, Miss. � The Mississippi Sea Wolves opened their eighth ECHL season by picking up two points in three games, falling by one goal in each, and posting a record of 0-1-2. Mississippi has two points and is tied for third place in the Central Division, along with four other teams.
In the Sea Wolves season opener on Friday, Louisiana edged Mississippi 3-2 in the shootout. In the second game of a home-and-home set, the IceGators won their ninth consecutive home opener, slipping past the Sea Wolves, 2-1. Then on Sunday, Pensacola downed Mississippi at the Wolves Den, 4-3 in overtime.

It�s the first of nine head-to-head games in the season series. Mississippi will host five contests, with four at the Columbus Civic Center in Georgia.
Last season, Mississippi won each of the three games in the season series, which were all played at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
The Sea Wolves all-time record against the Cottonmouths, through seven regular season games, is 6-1.
Mississippi�s all-time home record against Columbus at the Wolves Den, is a perfect 4-0.

It�s the first-ever game between the teams and first of 15 games in the battle for the Nextel Cup. Eight of the games will be played at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum, while seven contests are featured at the new Southeast Texas Entertainment Complex Arena in Beaumont.
Texas won their first-ever ECHL game on Sunday, 3-1 at Trenton.
Player of the Week:
Jeff Hutchins netted a pair of goals over three contests last week. The 6-foot, 205-pound native of Toronto, Ontario scored Mississippi�s first goal of the year on Friday, in the Sea Wolves season opening shootout loss against Louisiana. Hutchins tallied his second marker of the week on Sunday versus Pensacola, as Mississippi fell 4-3 in overtime.
Goaltender of the Week:
Greg Gardner posted a 0-1-1 record in two games last week, 1.93 goals against average and .944 save percentage. The 6-foot and 190-pound native of Mississauga, Ontario was assigned by Rochester of the American Hockey League on Friday and made 31saves that evening, in the Sea Wolves 3-2 shootout loss against Louisiana. The 27-year-old then turned away 36 of 38 shots at Louisiana on Saturday, as Mississippi suffered a 2-1 loss.
Injured Reserve:
Forward Mike Gamble and defenseman Chris Cava remain on the 7-day injured reserve.
