Gardner Is Back

BILOXI, Miss. Goaltender Greg Gardner has been assigned to the Mississippi Sea Wolves of the ECHL by the American Hockey League Rochester Americans.

Gardner is expected to arrive in time for the Sea Wolves season opener, tomorrow at 7:35 p.m. against Louisiana at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

Gardner, 27, is on a two-way contract with Rochester. The 6-foot, 190-pound native of Mississauga, Ontario set Mississippi team records last season, with 32 regular season wins by a goaltender, the lowest goals against average at 2.77 and the highest save percentage at .919. In 2002-03, he was also named the Sea Wolves Goaltender of the Month for October, December, January, February and March and posted a regular season record of 32-17-4.

Greg is a great addition for our team, said coach Bob Woods. Gardner is a quality guy on and off the ice, and I hope he can give us an extra lift for the home opener tomorrow.

Gardners return will add to an exciting opening night, President Bo McMurphy said. Greg brings a lot of experience and hes excellent in the community.

There are a limited number of tickets available for tomorrows home opener at 7:35 p.m. The Sea Wolves opening weekend also includes a road game on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Louisiana, then returning home on Sunday for a 4:05 p.m. contest versus Pensacola.

Fans are asked to arrive early for the opening weekend home games. Parking lot B will be unavailable due to a prior event booked by the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Doors open one hour before each game.

Highlights for the opening night Party with the Pack include a special pregame ceremony, with two banners to be raised, commemorating the Sea Wolves on-ice success over the past two seasons. The first 5,000 fans through the gates will receive a magnetic schedule. Military personnel, active or retired, receive two tickets for the price of one, by showing military identification at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum box office only. There will a postgame player appearance for all ages at Village Sports Pub.
