BILOXI, Miss. � Mississippi Sea Wolves Professional Hockey announced on Friday that compared to last season, the season ticket sales for the team is at 130 percent. More than 400 new season tickets have been sold, bringing the total to over 1,200 season ticket holders.
�We knew that there was a lot of interest in pro hockey on the Mississippi Gulf Coast,� President Bo McMurphy said. �We have a goal of 1,600 season ticket holders. There's still time and some great season seats available. We expect a big crowd at our home opener on Friday, October 17. There will be two banners raised, acknowledging the success over the past two seasons, and it�s going to set the tone for the season.�
�Everyone in the front office has been working really hard all summer,� Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Bob Woods said. �You can feel the excitement in the air. The new ECHL era begins next week and I can�t wait to drop the puck. There are new divisions, new teams, plus we�ll renew some familiar, intense rivalries.�
A limited number of tickets are available for the Sea Wolves home opener at 7:35 p.m. on Friday, October 17 against the Louisiana IceGators.
The Sea Wolves home games against the new Central Division rivals include eight contests against the expansion Texas (Beaumont) Wildcatters, the Louisiana IceGators and Pensacola Ice Pilots visit seven times, the Columbus Cottonmouths play in Biloxi on five occasions, while the Augusta Lynx and Gwinnett (Duluth, Georgia) Gladiators make one trip each to the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
For the first time ever, Mississippi hosts two ECHL teams based in California. The Fresno Falcons visit Biloxi on November 9 and the San Diego Gulls make an appearance on February 17.
In addition, the Columbia Inferno travel to the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on January 2, marking a rematch of the 2002-03 Southern Conference Finals.
The Sea Wolves play the first of two preseason games tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. CT at TECO Arena in Estero, Florida. On Sunday, Mississippi wraps up its preseason action against the Everblades at 2 p.m. CT at TECO Arena.
