Ryder Advances To The NHL

BILOXI, Miss. Michael Ryder became the seventh former Mississippi Sea Wolves player to advance to the National Hockey League when he made his debut with Montreal on Thursday.

Ryder played 19 shifts, registered four shots and finished with an even rating, in Montreals 5-2 loss at Ottawa.

In 2001-02, Ryder had 27 points in 20 games with Mississippi, by scoring 14 goals and adding 13 assists, while accumulating two penalty minutes. The 6-foot-1 and 195-pound Ryder was chosen to represent Mississippi at the 2002 ECHL All-Star Game, but was unable to participate due to being recalled with Quebec of the AHL. A native of Bonavista, Newfoundland, Ryder was selected by Montreal in the eighth round (216th overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.

Ryder joins Jason Morgan (Los Angeles), Jan Nemecek (Los Angeles), Travis Scott (Los Angeles), Dan Focht (Phoenix), Chris Schmidt (Los Angeles) and Francois Beauchemin (Montreal) as former Sea Wolves alumni that have advanced to the NHL.
