BILOXI, Miss. - Mississippi Sea Wolves Operating Partner Bo McMurphy and General Manager Mike Fitzpatrick announced today Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Bob Woods has re-signed to a two-year contract. As per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.
Woods, 34, will begin his second season behind the bench for Mississippi. During the 2001-02 season, he led the Sea Wolves to a 41-26-5 regular season record and second place in the East Coast Hockey League Southwest Division. Mississippi went on to win the Southwest Division in the Kelly Cup Playoffs only to lose against Greenville three games to one in the Southern Conference Finals.
"My family and I are excited to stay in Mississippi," said Woods. "With the new ownership group and their enthusiasm, I believe strongly the Sea Wolves will be successful on and off the ice."
"The owners were set on signing Bob to a multi-year deal," said McMurphy. "I think it was the single most important thing to get stability in the club and we're excited he's staying. Personally, he's a great friend. I've coached with Bob in youth hockey and he's excellent with kids. His signing is going to continue to benefit youth hockey and the Sea Wolves."
