Sea Wolves Re-Sign Rochon

BILOXI, Miss. - Mississippi Sea Wolves coach Bob Woods announced today that veteran defenseman Patrick Rochon has re-signed for the 2002-03 season. As per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.

Rochon, 27, split last season between the Sea Wolves and New Orleans Brass. He played 43 games with New Orleans, picking up four goals and 27 assists for a total of 31 points and 86 penalty minutes. Rochon was claimed by Mississippi off waivers on January 31, 2002. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound native of Ste-Martine, Quebec appeared in 25 games with the Sea Wolves scoring one goal and adding 16 assists in 17 games to go along with 51 penalty minutes. Rochon holds the Mississippi team records with 357 regular season games played, 150 assists and 178 points (28g-150a). He is the only original player remaining from the Sea Wolves expansion season in 1996-97.

"My life is here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast," said Rochon. "I'm getting ready for the season and looking forward to help bring another championship back to Mississippi."

"Patrick has made Mississippi his home. He's been here since day one and cares about the Sea Wolves," said Woods. "Rochon brings experience to our defense and I look for him to be an asset again this season."

Mississippi opens the 2002-03 season at Baton Rouge on Saturday, October 12.

The Sea Wolves home opener is Sunday, October 13 against instate rival Jackson.
