BILOXI, Miss. - Mississippi Sea Wolves coach Bob Woods announced today that forward John Evangelista (ih-van-jehl-LIHST-ah) re-signed for the 2002-03 season. As per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.
Evangelista, 27, was limited to just six games last year due to a right knee injury, scoring one goal and adding two assists. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound native of St. Catharines, Ontario is entering his fifth season of professional hockey and fourth in Mississippi.
"I love it here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The fans and the organization have made it like my second home," said Evangelista. "As far as my leg injury from last year, it's almost 100 percent. It's strong and I have a full range of motion. I'm looking forward to getting back on the ice."
"John had his knee problems last year, but doctors tell me he'll make a full recovery," said Woods. "He brings excitement on the ice and experience. A healthy Evangelista this year, should improve our penalty killing."
Five players have signed with Mississippi for the upcoming season. Evangelista joins veterans Steffon Walby, Dave Paradise, Patrick Rochon and Cody Bowtell.
Mississippi opens the season at Baton Rouge on Saturday, October 12. The home opener for the Sea Wolves is Sunday, October 13 at 5:05 p.m. against instate rival Jackson.
