Mississippi Signs Stayzer

BILOXI, Miss. - Mississippi Sea Wolves coach Bob Woods announced today the signing of left wing Blair Stayzer (STAY-zer) for the 2002-03 season.

As per team policy, terms of the contract were not released. Stayzer, 21, played in 41 games last season with the Johnstown Chiefs of the East Coast Hockey League and four games with the Saint John Flames of the American Hockey League. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound native of Welland, Ontario totalled one goal and eight assists along with 104 penalty minutes. Stayzer was selected by the Calgary Flames in the seventh round of the 1999 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

"It's a good opportunity for me," said Stayzer. "Everyone has nice things to say about Mr. Woods and the organization. I'm looking for a fresh start and intend to make the most of it."

"Blair is a big, physical power forward coming off a contract with the Calgary Flames," said Woods. "I expect him to provide toughness and fill the holes left by Nick Greenough (signed with Grand Rapids, AHL) and Yuri Moscevsky (signed with Cleveland, AHL)."

Stayzer becomes the ninth player signed by Mississippi for the upcoming season. He joins Steffon Walby, Dave Paradise, Patrick Rochon, Cody Bowtell, John Evangelista, Jim Baxter, Austin Miller and Ryan Clark.

Mississippi's only preseason home game is free to the public at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 4 against Pensacola at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
