Start Spreadin' The News, Moon Headed To New York |
BILOXI, Miss. - Mississippi Sea Wolves coach Bob Woods and general manager Mike Fitzpatrick announced today that equipment manager Scott Moon has been hired by the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League as assistant equipment manager.
Moon, 31, returns to the NHL, where he was assistant equipment manager of the New Jersey Devils in 1992-93. Selected by his peers to the 2002 East Coast Hockey League All-Star Game in Trenton, New Jersey, Moon enters his 15th season of professional hockey. His equipment manager experience includes six seasons in Orlando of the International Hockey League, highlighted by the 2001 Turner Cup Championship. The native of Utica, New York has also been head equipment manager in his hometown of Utica and in Albany, both of the American Hockey League.
"This is just tremendous," said Moon. "The New York Islanders made an offer and it's where I've always wanted to be. The sad part is leaving people and an area that I care about a great deal, but I couldn't say no to this opportunity. With new ownership and the exciting things that are going on this season, it's tough to leave the Sea Wolves. The hockey operations staff is the best. But, they'll be alright without me."
"It's a great thing for Scott and very deserving," said Woods. "He belongs in the NHL and he's going to have a long career there. It's a huge hole for the Mississippi Sea Wolves to fill, but we'll try to get another equipment manager in the quality of Scott Moon."
The search for a new equipment manager begins immediately.
