BILOXI, Miss. - Mississippi coach Bob Woods announced today the Florida Everblades have traded goaltender Sean Matile (Mah-TEEL) to the Sea Wolves for future considerations and Matile has also signed with Mississippi for the 2002-03 season. As per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.
Matile, 27, appeared in a total of 26 games with four teams last season, posting a 7-10-3 record. He suited up with New Orleans, Richmond and Florida in the East Coast Hockey League and Cleveland of the American Hockey League. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound netminder from Vernon, British Columbia shutout the Sea Wolves 4-0 at New Orleans on October 20, 2001, making 26 saves in the process.
"I've always heard good things about playing in Mississippi and I'm excited. When I started playing professional hockey, I had discussions with the Sea Wolves and now it's become reality," said Matile. "Last year was tough moving around. I'm looking forward to playing in Mississippi and doing whatever it takes to win."
"Sean is a big goaltender who covers a lot of the net," said Woods. "He blanked us last year in New Orleans and I expect big things from him this year. I look for Matile to take charge, bring leadership and make an impact."
Matile becomes the first goaltender and 10th player signed by Mississippi for the upcoming season. He joins Steffon Walby, Dave Paradise, Patrick Rochon, Cody Bowtell, John Evangelista, Jim Baxter, Austin Miller, Ryan Clark and Blair Stayzer.
