Matile Makes Great First Impression Blanking Jackson 2-0

BILOXI, Miss. � Mississippi goaltender Sean Matile made his Sea Wolves debut a successful and memorable one, making 35 saves in the Sea Wolves 2-0 victory over the Jackson Bandits.

The opening 20 minutes remained scoreless, with Jackson (6-9-0) outshooting Mississippi 13-9.

Mississippi (9-3-1) opened the score on the power play in the middle stanza. Defenseman Jim Baxter sprung Dave Paradise alone on a breakaway. Paradise snapped a shot low to the glove side, past Adam Hauser, making it 1-0 for the Sea Wolves.

The Sea Wolves made another power play count in the third. Cody Bowtell got the puck to Paradise. The veteran roofed it over Hauser�s left shoulder, to round out the scoring.

Matile turned away 22 saves over the final two periods to preserve the shutout infront of 2,769 fans at the Wolves Den. The win also gave Sea Wolves coach Bob Woods, his 50th career regular season victory behind the Mississippi bench.

Mississippi went 2-for-6 on the power play. Jackson was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

The Sea Wolves take a four points to none lead in the battle for the Nextel Cup. Game 3 of 12 head-to-head meetings is Sunday at 2:05 p.m. at Jackson�s Mississippi Coliseum.

Tomorrow night is the Second Annual Nextel / Sea Wolves Howl Against Hunger, as Mississippi plays host to Pensacola at 7:35 p.m. Fans are asked to bring canned goods and non-perishable food items for the Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen in Biloxi. The first 3,000 fans will receive a �Howl Towel�. Following the game, there will be a jersey auction with proceeds going towards the Gulf Coast Youth Hockey Association.
