BILOXI, Miss. � Louisiana IceGators pulled even with the Mississippi in the Southwest Division standings, by beating the Sea Wolves 2-1 at the Wolves Den.
Both teams sit in a tie for second place with 20 points.
In the first period, the teams skated to a scoreless tie. Louisiana�s best chance was a 3-on-1 break, but Sea Wolves veteran defenseman Patrick Rochon did a great job breaking up the odd-man rush.
The IceGators (9-5-2) opened the score on the power play. Bobby Brown lifted a shot over the left shoulder of Sea Wolves netminder Sean Matile. Brown�s sixth goal of the season, made it 1-0 for Louisiana. The goal snapped Matile�s shutout streak at precisely, 85 minutes.
The Sea Wolves (9-5-2) solved Frederic Cloutier, just 36 seconds into the third. Cody Bowtell deposited his seventh tally of the year, tying the score 1-1. Defenseman Jim Baxter picked up an assist on the goal, extending his point streak to 10 games.
Louisiana regained its lead after killing off a 5-on-3 opportunity. From the left wing, IceGators� Shawn McNeil whipped a sweet pass across to a trailing Louis Mass, who registered his first professional goal, making it 2-1 for Louisiana.
Cloutier made several outstanding saves to hold off the Sea Wolves attack. He turned away 26-of-27 to improve to 7-3-2.
Matile made 22 stops, only to see his record drop to 1-1-0.
Mississippi went 0-for-5 on the power play. Louisiana converted on 1-of-5 with the man advantage.
