JACKSON, Miss. � Nick Theriault scored the game-winning goal in the second period, as the Jackson Bandits slipped past the Mississippi Sea Wolves 2-1.
The Sea Wolves still lead the Nextel Cup series against the Bandits, 9 points to 4.
Jackson (12-13-1) opened the score on the power play. Bandits� John McNabb was at the side of the net and he slid the puck between the legs of Sea Wolves goaltender Greg Gardner at the 18:00 mark. McNabb�s 14th of the year, gave Jackson a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
The Sea Wolves (14-9-2) responded at 5:42 of the second period. Dwayne Blais tapped in Darryl Campbell�s wraparound attempt, beating Adam Hauser. It was the fifth marker of the campaign for Blais, tying the score 1-1.
Jackson regained its lead at 12:21 of the middle stanza. Theriault�s turnaround wrist shot from the left circle sailed over the left shoulder of Gardner, making it 2-1 for the Bandits. It was Theriault�s third tally of the year.
Both teams were held off the scoreboard in the third. Sea Wolves goaltender Gardner stopped 26-of-28 to drop his record to 11-7-3. Hauser turned away 18-of-19, improving to 5-6-1 on the season.
Mississippi went 0-for-2 on the power play. Jackson tallied on 1-of-5 chances with the man advantage.
The Sea Wolves return home tomorrow against the Louisiana IceGators at 5:05 p.m. At all Sea Wolves Sunday home games, adults purchasing an individual ticket, receive one free ticket for a child 12 and under.
