Sea Wolves 'Out-Duke' IceGators 4-3 In Overtime |
BILOXI, Miss. Kent Davyduke made his Sea Wolves debut a memorable one by scoring a dramatic overtime goal, just five seconds in the extra session as Mississippi defeated the Louisiana IceGators 4-3 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
Louisiana (15-5-5) opened the score just 13 seconds into the game. Bruce Richardson slapped a shot past Greg Gardner, making it 1-0 for the IceGators. Richardsons goal was his 14th of the year.
Mississippi (15-9-2) tied it at 9:27. Dwayne Blais pressured in the IceGators end and centered for Darryl Campbell, who beat Kyle Kettles. The goal was Campbells second of the season.
In the second period, Dave Paradise gave the Sea Wolves the lead by wiring a left circle shot past Kettles.
Mississippi was up 2-1, but at the 8:23 mark of the middle stanza, referee Chris Brown made two calls. Sea Wolves forward Cody Bowtell was assessed a two-minute minor penalty for tripping and teammate Travis Lisabeth was also handed an two-minute unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
On the ensuing 5-on-3 Louisiana power play, Bobby Brown would score to knot the score 2-2.
Then a little over two minutes later, Daniel Goneau fired a shot from the slot, beating Gardner to the stick side, giving Louisiana a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.
In the third, the Sea Wolves knotted the score on the power play. Davyduke fed Paradise, who unleashed a quick one-timer into the back of the net. Paradise with his second of the game, has 16 goals on the year.
The game went to overtime, tied 3-3. Just five seconds into the extra session, Bowtell got the puck to Davyduke. The Sea Wolves rookie wired a left circle shot past Kettles to give Mississippi a thrilling 4-3 overtime win. It was the fastest goal in Sea Wolves and ECHL overtime history.
Gardner made 25 saves on 28 shots, improving his record to 12-7-2. Kettles suffered the loss turning away 37-of-41. His record falls to 4-3-0.
Mississippi scored on 1-of-7 power play opportunities. Louisiana also went 1-for-7 with the man advantage.
