Baxter Named InGlasCo ECHL Player Of The Week |
PRINCETON, N.J. � Mississippi defenseman Jim Baxter is the InGlasCo East Coast Hockey League Player of the Week for December 9-15.
�It�s an honor, a lot of great players have won the award in the past,� said Baxter. �We had a great week as a team as well, so it makes the honor that much sweeter.�
The 23-year-old Baxter scored eight points and had a plus/minus of +3 as the Sea Wolves won three road games in three nights to move into a tie with Louisiana for the Southwest Division lead, and into a tie with Louisiana and Atlantic City for the ECHL points lead.
Selected in the seventh round (180th overall) by Boston in 1997 and selected again in the seventh round (202nd overall) by Carolina in 1999, Baxter had three assists in Mississippi�s 4-1 win at Pensacola. He assisted on all three goals in Friday�s 3-2 win at Louisiana, and on Saturday he had a goal and an assist in the Sea Wolves 4-1 win at Baton Rouge.
The 6-foot-3 and 215-pound Baxter leads ECHL defensemen with 33 points in 29 games. He is tied for the ECHL lead among defensemen with eight goals while ranking second with a team-leading 25 assists.
On behalf of Jim Baxter, a case of pucks will be donated to a Mississippi area youth hockey organization by InGlasCo.
