PENSACOLA, Fla. � Pensacola erased a 1-0 deficit, to score four unanswered goals and beat the Mississippi Sea Wolves, 4-1.
Both teams skated to a scoreless opening 20 minutes. Sea Wolves goaltender Greg Gardner made 18 saves, while Ice Pilots netminder Maxime Gingras stopped nine.
Mississippi (20-11-3) opened the score at 1:15 of the middle stanza on the power play. Rookie all-star Kent Davyduke scored his 12th goal of the year.
The Ice Pilots (15-11-4) responded with a goal on a man advantage of their own. Gregor Baumgartner snapped a shot five-hole on Gardner at the 2:33 mark, tying the score 1-1. Baumgartner�s goal was his 12th of the campaign.
Still in the second, Pensacola converted on the penalty kill. Chris Minard scored on his own rebound, giving the Ice Pilots a 2-1 lead. Minard�s goal was his third of the season.
At 16:48 of the second, Minard went back to work, cashing in his second of the contest and fourth of the year, making it 3-1 for Pensacola through 40 minutes of action.
In the third, the Ice Pilots put the game out of reach at 7:21. Defenseman Brad Dexter buried a rebound in front, scoring his second of the campaign to round out the scoring.
Gardner stopped 38-of-42 shots, falling to 15-8-3. Gingras turned away 41-of-42, improving to 12-8-4.
Mississippi went 1-for-7 on the power play, while Pensacola also converted on 1-of-7 chances with the man advantage.
The Sea Wolves return home tomorrow for the first of a four-game homestand beginning at 7:35 p.m. against the Arkansas RiverBlades at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
