BILOXI, Miss. The Alaska Aces of the ECHL will wear Mississippi Sea Wolves jerseys on Saturday and auction them off immediately following the 7:15 p.m. game against the Fresno Falcons at Sullivan Arena in Anchorage.
All proceeds from the auction will go towards the Mississippi Sea Wolves Rebuilding and Restoration Fund. The fund has also been set up to help those staff members and season ticket holders who were affected by the hurricane.
During Hurricane Katrina, floodwaters destroyed the inside of the Mississippi Coast Coliseum, including the front office, locker rooms, ice-making equipment and two Zambonis.
"All of the money that we've raised has gone straight to repairing what we lost," said Jesse Martin, Sea Wolves general manager. "We've even relocated a few of our staff members to other teams. The good news is that a lease agreement was signed with the Coliseum for the 2006-07 season, which reassures our fans that there is going to be another season of Sea Wolves hockey."
In addition to the Aces game-worn commemorative jersey auction, the Sea Wolves have made efforts to raise money by selling their "Hurricane Katrina Survivor" T-shirts online at www.MsSeaWolves.com.
