BILOXI, Miss. � Left wing Trevor Gillies became the 10th former Mississippi Sea Wolves player to advance to the National Hockey League when he made his debut with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on Sunday.
The 6-foot-3 and 235-pound Gillies played four shifts, tallying one shot and accumulating 21 penalty minutes with minor penalties for hooking, boarding and instigating, a major penalty for fighting and a 10-minute misconduct in the Mighty Ducks 4-3 shootout loss versus Minnesota.
Prior to being called up by Anaheim, the 26-year-old Gillies had one goal, one assist and 35 penalty minutes in eight games this season with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League.
A native of Cambridge, Ontario, Gillies began his professional career with Mississippi in the 1999-00 season registering six assists and 202 penalty minutes in 53 games.
Gillies joins Sea Wolves alumni players Jason Morgan (Los Angeles), Jan Nemecek (Los Angeles), Travis Scott (Los Angeles), Dan Focht (Phoenix), Chris Schmidt (Los Angeles), Francois Beauchemin (Montreal), Michael Ryder (Montreal), Rob Skrlac (New Jersey) and Jay Leach (Boston) that have advanced to the NHL.
There are three non-players in Sea Wolves team history to advance to the NHL consisting of New York Islanders equipment manager Scott Moon, Atlanta Thrashers assistant athletic trainer Step Roberts and Dallas Stars sales account executive Thom Emerson.
