SUNRISE, Fla. � The Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League announced that they have signed former Mississippi Sea Wolves defenseman Dan Focht.
In his second full professional season in 1998-99, Focht had six penalty minutes in two games with Mississippi and two assists and 58 penalty minutes in 30 regular season games and one goal and 10 penalty minutes in three playoff games with Springfield of the AHL. He returned to Mississippi in 1999-2000 and had one assist in four games while also registering 11 points (2g-9a) and 86 penalty minutes in 44 regular season games and one assist in five playoff games with Springfield.
The 27-year-old Focht had five points (2g-3a) and 84 penalty minutes in 26 games with Hamilton of the American Hockey League in 2004-05.
Selected in the first round (11th overall) by Phoenix in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft, Focht has played parts of three seasons in the NHL with Phoenix and Pittsburgh and he has eight points (2g-6a) and 145 penalty minutes in 82 regular season games and one assist in one Stanley Cup Playoff game. He has 50 points (10g-40a) and 725 penalty minutes in 324 career regular season AHL games and two points (1g-1a) and 16 penalty minutes in 11 career AHL playoff games.
Mississippi opens its 10th Anniversary season on the road at Pensacola on Friday, October 22.
The Sea Wolves drop the puck on their home opener is on Friday, October 28 against Texas at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
