 PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL hired 67 years of on-ice National Hockey League officiating experience with the announcement on Monday that Gord Broseker has been hired as Director of Officiating, Bryan Lewis has been hired as Officiating Consultant and Mark Faucette and Mark Rudolph have been added to the Supervisory Staff as Supervisors of Officials.
"The ECHL is extremely pleased to have secured the services of such respected individuals in not only the officiating community but the hockey business as well," said ECHL Vice President of Hockey Operations Rod Pasma. "Our officiating staff will have unparalleled direction and guidance and our member clubs will have incomparable service as we constantly strive to improve our officiating product."
Broseker, who has worked each of the past three seasons as an ECHL supervisor, will oversee the officiating department, including recruitment, supervision and training of on-ice officials and all scheduling of officials. Broseker spent almost 30 years as a linesman in the NHL working over 1,863 regular season games and more than 200 Stanley Cup Playoff games, including five Stanley Cup Finals. He was selected to officiate in two NHL All-Star Games and four Canada Cups and was one of four NHL linesmen selected to work the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan.
Lewis, who was the Director of Officiating for the NHL from 1989-2000, will consult the Officiating Department on officiating matters while also assisting with the administration of rules and directives. He will also assist with the annual ECHL official's training camp as well as assuming a supervisory role at ECHL games. He worked 20 years and more than 1,000 games as a referee in the NHL, including the 1981 All-Star Game and the 1984 Canada Cup Finals. Lewis was a member of the six-man officiating committee that selected the officials for each game in the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan and for 11 seasons was responsible for the recruitment, training and assignment of AHL referees and linesmen.
Faucette worked more than 1,000 games in 17 seasons as a referee in the NHL. He was chosen to work the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia and the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan as well as the 1996 NHL All-Star Game.
Rudolph was Officiating Program Director for USA Hockey for 12 years, overseeing more than 13,000 referees. He served nine years as a supervisor of officials for the International Ice Hockey Federation and six years as a supervisor of officials for the NHL.
Broseker replaces Joe Ernst, who resigned as director of officials because of personal reasons.
